 Our team of highly experienced engineers hold Network Rail Authority to work as DPE, CRE, PE HV/LV/SCADA, PE Signalling, PE Civils, HV Level A, HV Level B and HV Level C. We are also able to supply PE OLE via our industry partners.

Matt Bowey, BEng (Hons), MSc, CEng, MIET, Principal Consultant

Matt is the founder and director of BTS Group. For over 25 years he's worked with electrical power systems in aerospace and the railway industry. 


Experience

  • For the last two years Matt's been the Designated Project Engineer and PE for Porterbrook's Long Marston infrastructure upgrade project, with accountability for the engineering and assurance of all new site assets including OLE, 25kV converter sub-station, HV/LV installations, track, signalling, site control room and vehicle underpass. Matt also holds the CDM role of Principal Designer for the project works.
  • For the last eight years he's been the Designated Project Engineer and Senior PE for 25kV E&P for Crossrail Anglia 25kV electrification.
  • Previously Matt worked at Crossrail Ltd. and Network Rail MK managing and leading teams on 25kV traction power.

James Bray, Senior Consultant - E&P

Experience

  • Eight years’ electrification experience of Crossrail Central, Anglia and Western Sections, The Great West Electrification and Transpennine Route Upgrade working as a designer.
  • Construction CRE and client-side PE for various large organisations (NR, Balfour Beatty, Alstom/Costain, Siemens) specialising in 25kV traction power systems as well as protection and control, SCADA and LV.
  • As part of the Siemens electrification team, James has knowledge and experience with the Rail Charging Converter technology in addition to the Sitras ASG25 (and/or 8DA GIS) Switchgear.

Keith Kirwan, Construction Manager / Principal Contractor

Keith has 21 years of construction experience, with 10 years of rail experience across multiple disciplines, including heavy civils, track, traction power, signalling, OHLE, HV and E&P.


Experience

  • For the last two years Keith's been the Designated Project Engineer and PE for Porterbrook's Long Marston infrastructure upgrade project, with accountability for the engineering and assurance of all new site assets, including OLE, 25kV converter sub-station, HV/LV installations, track, signalling, site control room and vehicle underpass. Keith also holds the CDM role of Principal Contractor for the project works.
  • Crossrail Anglia (Northeast Spur) 25kV electrification since 2014 as principal contractor (18 months) and client side for Network Rail (8 years).

Iain Jenkins, Senior Consultant - Civils

Iain has 24 years’ extensive knowledge and experience in Civil Engineering in the highways, aerospace and railway industries.

  • For the last two years Iain's been ad-hoc Civils PE for Porterbrook's Long Marston infrastructure upgrade project, working with suppliers of all new site assets including OLE, track, signalling, site control room and vehicle underpass.
  • Designated Civils CRE (Construction & Design) on the Western Frameworks for the last three years.
  • Previously worked for Balfour Beatty (F2A), Carillion - Crossrail (Heathrow to Paddington) and Amey Rail (Brent Cross Sidings).

Phil Dakin, Senior Consultant - Signalling

Phil has spent 25 years working with signalling systems in the railway industry.


Experience

  • For the last two years Phil's been  ad-hoc Signalling PE for Porterbrook’s Long Marston infrastructure upgrade project. 
  • Contractors Engineering Manager for numerous signalling schemes. 
  • Previously Designated Project Engineer and Snr. PE Signalling within Eastern region. 
  • HS2 phase 2b railway systems engineer leading over 100 consultants in development of whole railway system.

  • For the last year, Andre's been the Construction Manager for Porterbrook’s Long Marston infrastructure upgrade project, working with suppliers of all new site assets including OLE, 25kV converter sub-station, HV/LV installations, track, signalling, site control room and vehicle underpass. 
  • 37 years of railway signalling construction and test.
  • 20 years of signalling construction management.

Bill Gibbons CEng MSc MIET MIRSE, Senior Consultant - Systems

Bill has 20 years' experience across all forms of railway signalling, including maintenance, route asset management and Tier 1 signalling supplier.

  • 5 years Network Rail signed off Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM).

Robin Lawrence, Member of IET

Robin has worked in high voltage electrical engineering for 40 years. He previously worked in power generation, gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs and balance of plant.

  • PE and commissioning manager for Crossrail West and East projects.
