Supported the Bow–Shenfield 25kV electrification upgrade from 2018 to mid-2026, providing the Designated Project Engineer (DPE) and Senior E&P Project Engineer (PE).
The DPE oversaw engineering and assurance for converting the Elizabeth Line's NE spur from classic 25kV to +/-25kV autotransformer electrification, while the PE provided specialist 25kV electrification expertise.
Their responsibilities covered OLE and civils upgrades, delivery of four new traction power substations, 25km of autotransformer feeder installation, earthing and bonding enhancements, Ilford Depot improvements, and replacement of seven signalling power supply points.
Engaged from December 2023 to April 2026 to provide client-side technical, construction and assurance resources. This included senior engineering, project management, construction management, safety, maintenance and testing roles, as well as fulfilling the CDM Principal Designer and Principal Contractor duties.
The project delivered a world-first 25kV traction power substation using a Siemens Rail Charging Converter, a new 3km high-speed electrified test track with associated sidings, a Siemens WestCAD signalling system, a new depot control centre, and an HGV-compatible vehicle underpass.
BTS led commissioning and integration testing of all systems.
Beyond delivery, we managed requirements definition, standards compliance, systems assurance, risk management, design and construction management across suppliers, stakeholder liaison, and full handback and safety documentation.
