BTS Ltd. were engaged from Dec 2023 to April 2026 to provide the following
client side roles for the infrastructure upgrade project at Porterbrook's Long Marston
site:
- Designated Project Engineer (DPE)
- E&P Project Engineer (PE)
- OLE Project Engineer
- Signalling Project Engineer
- Civils Project Engineer
- Snr. Construction Manager
- Construction Manager
- Maintenance Support Engineer
- Assistant Project Manager
- H&S Manager
- Lead Test Engineer (Integration Testing)
In addition, BTS Ltd. fulfilled the CDM roles of Principal Designer (PD) and Principal
Contractor (PC).
The scope of the project was:
- A new 25kV traction power substation from local 11kV supply (Siemens Rail
- Charging Converter (RCC)); a world first
- A new electrified (Siemens SICAT SX OLE) high speed 3km test track and
- new sidings (some electrified)
- A new Siemens WestCAD signalling system for the test track
- A new two storey Depot Control Centre where signalling and traction power
- are controlled
- A new HGV compatible vehicle underpass to permit access to site
- Commissioning and integration testing of the new systems
The BTS Ltd. resources formed the entire client technical and construction
management teams for all the new assets in the project scope.
In addition to the technical specs, the BTS Ltd. scope also included the following:
- Requirements writing on behalf of the client
- Ensuring compliance to British, RSSB and Network Rail Standards
- Application of CSM-RA and management of the Project Hazard Record
- including chairing HAZID and HAZOP workshops
- Liason with Porterbrook Site Operations team to ensure seamless operation
- of the new assets
- Liason with ApBo and DeBo to provide electrified test track independent
- certification
- Construction management of three Tier 1 suppliers
- Design management of multiple designers including IDC/IDR and DRN reviews
- Liason with National Grid for the new railway 25kV traction supply
- Attendance at Porterbrook Safety Review Panel (SRP)
- Systems assurance via Form E, Form F and ECC
- Handback and Health & Safety files
The BTS deployed team were engaged from GRIP stage 1 and remained in role until
completion of GRIP stage 8 in early 2026.
