BTS Ltd. was engaged from 2018 through to mid 2026 to provide the Designated
Project Engineer (DPE) and Senior E&P Project Engineer (PE) resource for the 25kV
electrification scheme upgrade between Bow in East London and Shenfield. The
DPE role was to oversee the engineering and assurance for the conversion from
25kV 'classic' electrification to +/- 25kV autotransformer electrification for the NE
spur of the Elizabeth Line, whilst the PE role was to provide technical competence
with 25kV electrification.
The scope under DPE and PE responsibility were OLE upgrades and associated
civils, four new 25kV autotransformer traction power sub-stations at Pudding Mill
Lane, Ilford, Gidea Park and Shenfield, 25km of new autotransformer feeder,
earthing and bonding enhancements, Ilford Depot improvements and the
replacement of 7 signalling power Principal Supply Points (PSP).

The BTS deployed DPE was engaged at GRIP stage 3 and stayed in role until
completion of GRIP stage 8.
